Firaxis Revamps Civilization 7 Following Criticism

Following a less-than-stellar debut, the developers behind Civilization 7 have committed to enhancing the game's user experience. Firaxis Games has pinpointed the issues—primarily centered around the user interface and gameplay—and is diligently working on solutions to address these concerns.

Currently, Civilization 7 sits at a 47% positive rating on Steam. Players' feedback has not focused on the game's mechanics but rather on the simplified interface, the absence of certain features, and a lack of content. In response, Firaxis has prioritized interface improvements. They aim to enhance map readability, refine the menus, and make the overall interface more user-friendly.

The developers have outlined plans to introduce the following enhancements:

  • The ability to create teams in multiplayer mode
  • New types of maps
  • Customization options, including the ability to rename religions and cities

Update 1.1.0, which will include balance adjustments and improvements, is scheduled for release in March. The full release of Civilization 7 is set for February 11.

Many reviewers have pointed out that the game was released prematurely and requires significant further development. The $70 price point has come under particular scrutiny, with players feeling it does not currently reflect the game's quality. Fans of the series are hopeful that the developers will heed their feedback and roll out updates that rectify the issues, restoring the game to the high standards expected of the Civilization franchise.

Supporters of the Civilization series are eager for Civilization 7 to uphold the series' legacy of excellence and meticulous detail. However, they believe that in its current state, the game falls short of these expectations.
