4A Games Confirms Development of New Metro Game with Dmitry Glukhovsky

The recent emergence of Reburn, a studio founded by former members of 4A Games Ukraine (creators of the acclaimed Metro series), has prompted 4A Games to reaffirm its unwavering commitment to the Metro franchise. This clarification follows Reburn's announcement of their debut project, La Quimera, which sparked speculation about the future of Metro.

In an official statement, 4A Games addressed any confusion regarding their relationship with Reburn, offering congratulations on La Quimera while simultaneously emphasizing their continued dedication to the Metro series. The statement boldly declared: “We remain the team responsible for bringing you the beloved Metro games. Our efforts toward the next Metro installment continue in partnership with Dmitry Glukhovsky, guided by the same visionaries and talent that have shaped the series since its inception.”

Beyond the upcoming Metro sequel, 4A Games subtly hinted at progress on a completely new intellectual property, although details remain undisclosed. They highlighted their pride in their Ukrainian heritage and diverse, multicultural team, noting that the majority of their staff—approximately 150 out of over 200—remain based in Kyiv, with additional operations in Sliema, Malta, and remote work arrangements.

Regarding the organizational split, 4A Games provided further context: “Following the completion of Metro Exodus and its DLC, we collaborated closely with our partners at 4A Games Ukraine through outsourcing. Post-Exodus, we founded 4A Games Limited in Kyiv, absorbing roughly 50 more colleagues to sustain our momentum. Simultaneously, 4A Games Ukraine embarked on their standalone journey with La Quimera, eventually rebranding as Reburn.”

Since the launch of Metro Exodus in early 2019, fan anticipation for a new entry in the series has steadily grown, particularly given the relative lack of updates. While spin-offs and enhanced editions like the Enhanced Edition have kept the franchise in the spotlight, many eagerly await the next chapter in Dmitry Glukhovsky's post-apocalyptic world. Supported by Embracer Group (formerly THQ Nordic), the studio initially teased a new Metro title in 2019, promising a release within a vague "202X" timeframe before becoming quiet. Now, it appears that the wait may finally be drawing to a close.
