Photos of ASUS' Xbox-branded handheld device, codenamed Project Kennan, have recently surfaced online, sparking excitement among gaming enthusiasts. As first reported by 91mobiles and later highlighted by Eurogamer, images of the ASUS ROG Ally 2 in both white and black color variants were leaked from the Indonesian certification office. These images were initially linked to a now-deleted listing on the FCC website in the U.S.
The leaked images reveal that both versions of the ASUS ROG Ally 2 feature buttons configured in the Xbox layout (Y, B, A, and X), distinguishing them from the PlayStation and Nintendo button setups. Notably, the black variant's image displays an Xbox button positioned to the left of the thumbstick, though without the iconic 'X' symbol. While detailed tech specs are yet to be fully disclosed, it remains unclear whether there are significant differences between the black and white models.
According to Windows Central's Jez Corden, the devices are currently undergoing testing at Microsoft's headquarters, hinting at a potential reveal around May 20. Corden shared his insights on social media, tweeting:

Adding to the anticipation, last month, ASUS Republic of Gamers' X/Twitter account teased a brief glimpse of both a Republic of Gamers (ROG) Xbox controller and handheld system. The official Xbox account responded with a playful wide-eyed gif, suggesting that an official reveal might be on the horizon.
This leak aligns with earlier reports from IGN about Microsoft's expansive plans for video game hardware, which include a next-gen Xbox slated for 2027 and an Xbox-branded gaming handheld expected later in 2025. Microsoft gaming boss Phil Spencer has hinted that a first-party Xbox handheld is still years away.
Furthermore, the successor to the Xbox Series X is reportedly in full production and is expected to launch in two years. This development ties in with Xbox president Sarah Bond's recent statement that Microsoft is "moving full speed ahead on our next generation hardware," aiming to deliver the most significant technological advancement in console history.
