Mythical Island: Essential Cards from the Pokémon TCG Pocket Mini-Expansion

The Pokémon TCG Pocket Mythical Island expansion introduces 80 new cards, including the highly anticipated Mew Ex. This mini-set significantly impacts the game's meta. Let's examine some of the most impactful additions.

Table of Contents

  • Pokémon TCG Pocket Mythical Island Top Cards
  • Mew Ex
  • Vaporeon
  • Tauros
  • Raichu
  • Blue

Mythical Island offers exciting new cards capable of creating new deck archetypes or strengthening existing strategies. Here's a closer look:

Mew Ex

  • HP: 130
  • Psyshot (1 Psy Energy): 20 damage.
  • Genome Hacking (3 Colorless Energy): Copy one attack from your opponent's Active Pokémon.

Mew Ex, a Basic Pokémon, boasts high HP, a serviceable basic attack, and the game-changing Genome Hacking. Its versatility allows for inclusion in existing Mewtwo Ex decks, alongside Gardevoir, or even in Colorless-based strategies.

Vaporeon

  • HP: 120
  • Wash Out (Ability): Move a Water Energy from a Benched Water Pokémon to your Active Water Pokémon (as often as desired during your turn).
  • Wave Splash (1 Water, 2 Colorless Energy): 60 damage.

Vaporeon's ability to manipulate Water Energy makes it a formidable addition, particularly against prevalent Misty decks. Its energy manipulation exacerbates the already powerful Water-type strategies.

Tauros

  • HP: 100
  • Fighting Tackle (3 Colorless Energy): 40+ damage; +80 damage if the opponent's Active Pokémon is a Pokémon Ex.

Tauros requires setup, but its attack is devastating against Ex decks. The potential for 120 damage against Ex Pokémon makes it a significant threat to Pikachu Ex and a potent counter to Charizard Ex.

Raichu

  • HP: 120
  • Gigashock (3 Lightning Energy): 60 damage + 20 damage to each of your opponent's Benched Pokémon.

Raichu further strengthens existing Pikachu Ex/Zebstrika decks. The added 20 damage to each Benched Pokémon significantly disrupts strategies relying on bench development, particularly when paired with Surge decks.

Blue (Trainer/Supporter)

  • Effect: During your opponent's next turn, all your Pokémon take 10 less damage from your opponent's attacks.

Blue provides crucial defense against powerful opponents like Blaine and Giovanni, countering their quick knockout strategies. Its defensive capabilities are a strong counter to the aggressive Ex decks that utilize Giovanni.

These cards represent some of Mythical Island's most impactful additions to Pokémon TCG Pocket. For more Pokémon TCG Pocket strategies and troubleshooting (including Error 102 solutions), check out The Escapist.
