Dune: Awakening Release Date Set, Free Updates Confirmed

Funcom, developer of Dune: Awakening, has shared new details about the game's pricing structure and long-term roadmap, clarifying that the May 20 release marks the complete launch—not an Early Access phase.

The multiplayer survival title draws inspiration from Frank Herbert's seminal sci-fi novel and its film adaptations. While positioned as an MMO, it won't require subscription fees.

The studio plans ongoing development through gratis content updates while adopting a traditional optional DLC approach. Funcom highlighted its track record maintaining legacy MMOs like Anarchy Online and Conan Exiles with free expansions years post-launch, confirming Dune: Awakening will follow suit with regular feature-rich updates.

Pricing starts at $49.99 for the Standard Edition, with Deluxe ($69.99) and Ultimate ($89.99) editions offering five-day early access plus exclusive items. Both premium editions include a Season Pass granting four timed DLC releases, the first available at launch.

The Deluxe Edition features Sardaukar armor worn by the elite faction hunting players, while the Ultimate Edition adds Paul Atreides' signature 2021 film stillsuit, digital artbook/soundtrack, custom color schemes, and the Caladan Palace building set.

All pre-orders receive a universal customization pattern for gear/vehicles plus Muad'Dib's Terrarium—an in-game decoration showcasing the iconic desert rodent.

The developer also outlined PC specifications, confirming support for cutting-edge upscaling technologies including Nvidia DLSS 4 with Frame Generation, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS 2.
