This Is the Epic Games Store Free Game for January 16

Escape Academy, a highly-rated escape-room style puzzle game, is the Epic Games Store's free game offering for January 16th, 2025. This marks the fourth free game offered by EGS in 2025 and, based on its OpenCritic score of 80, the highest-rated freebie so far this year.

Players can claim Escape Academy for free from January 16th to 23rd, 2025. Developed by Coin Crew Games, the game challenges players to train as "escape room masters" within the Academy. This is not the first time Escape Academy has been offered for free on the EGS; however, this giveaway provides a full week of access, unlike its previous shorter appearance. This timing is particularly beneficial for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, as the game is leaving that service on January 15th.

The game boasts a "Strong" rating on OpenCritic, with an 88% recommendation rate, and overwhelmingly positive player reviews across Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. Escape Academy offers both solo and multiplayer options, including online and split-screen co-op, widely praised as a top-tier co-op puzzle game experience.

Following Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Hell Let Loose, and Turmoil, Escape Academy is the fourth free game of January 2025 on the Epic Games Store. The announcement of the fifth free game is anticipated on January 16th. For those enjoying the main game, two DLC packs, "Escape From Anti-Escape Island" and "Escape From the Past," are available for individual purchase ($9.99 each) or as a Season Pass ($14.99).
