Feral Interactive Drops the Imperium Update for ROME: Total War

ROME: Total War's massive free Imperium Update is now available on Android! Feral Interactive has delivered a wealth of gameplay enhancements, refined controls, and quality-of-life improvements to this classic strategy game, originally released on Android in 2018. The same update will roll out to the Barbarian Invasion and Alexander standalone expansions next week.

What's New in the Imperium Update?

This update borrows some of the best features from Feral's more recent mobile titles, Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE. Three new control options significantly enhance unit management: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection.

These modes offer greater precision and ease of use. Moving armies, agents, or fleets is now streamlined—simply tap and hold instead of manually dragging paths. Positioning Mode allows for fine-tuned unit placement with a tap-and-hold mechanism, while the new Group Grid feature simplifies unit group management via a collapsible selection menu. Melee Mode dynamically switches ranged units to close combat when strategically advantageous.

A significant addition is Command Slowdown, automatically reducing game speed during complex order issuance. And for the first time, keyboard and mouse support is available on Android (and iPad).

The minimap has received a visual overhaul, mirroring the design of MEDIEVAL II's minimap. Smoother zooming and navigation are now complemented by a convenient reset button for quickly returning to the default view.

The update is live now on the Google Play Store. Update your Android version of ROME: Total War today! Don't forget to check back next week for the updated Barbarian Invasion and Alexander expansions.
