Fans of Civilization VII have reason to be excited as the developers at Firaxis Games have hinted at the potential return of iconic leader Gandhi, though possibly as a future DLC. Dive deeper to understand why this beloved Indian leader was omitted from the game's initial lineup.
Civ 7 Devs Consider Bringing Back Past Civilizations and Leaders
Hope remains for Gandhi's inclusion in Civilization VII. In an insightful interview with IGN on February 13, 2025, lead designer Ed Beach expressed that while Gandhi may not be part of the initial roster, there's a possibility he could be introduced later through DLC.
During the IGN interview, Beach shed light on the decision-making process behind the exclusion of certain civilizations and leaders. "So I would say we haven't forgotten about anybody who's been in our game before," Beach remarked. "Certainly civilizations, there's a lot of consternation right now about where's Great Britain or England, why aren't they in our game?"
The rationale for not including Britain or India in the initial release of Civilization VII stems from the need to balance the game with fresh and exciting content. "There're just too many popular choices and we always want to have a few fresh ones that sound really new and exciting to people," Beach explained. "So things are getting left behind, but we always are looking at the big picture, when we're going to bring leaders or civs into the fold. So there's hope for Gandhi, yet."
Given the extensive list of DLCs released for Civilization VI, it's reasonable to anticipate that Gandhi will eventually find his way into Civilization VII. However, the precise timeline for his return remains uncertain at this point.
