In the immersive world of Hyper Light Breaker, players are introduced to a variety of essential resources, with Golden Rations standing out as the rarest and most crucial for significant upgrades. The game, however, leaves much to be discovered about these materials, akin to the explorative nature of roguelike games. To expedite your journey and minimize guesswork, here's a detailed guide on securing Golden Rations and understanding their utility.
Where to Get Golden Rations
In the early access version of Hyper Light Breaker, there are two primary methods to obtain Golden Rations: through exploration and cycle resets. During your runs, keep an eye out for chest icons on the map. These chests often hold valuable resources for purchases or upgrades, and occasionally, they might contain Golden Rations. You can identify a chest with Golden Rations by the distinctive Golden Ration icon hovering above it.
Areas with Prisms, marked by a golden diamond icon on the map, are hotspots where you're more likely to find chests containing Golden Rations.
The second strategy involves cycle resets. A cycle in Hyper Light Breaker corresponds to each instance of the Overgrowth, which resets when your Rez count depletes to zero. Upon exhausting your revives, you have the choice to retry the map at the cost of resources or opt for a complete cycle reset at the Cursed Outpost. Upon resetting, you'll be scored, and achieving a high enough rank will reward you with Golden Rations.
What are Golden Rations For?
Golden Rations are pivotal in advancing your progress in Hyper Light Breaker. They are predominantly utilized at your home base to unlock permanent upgrades for your characters or to access new services from vendors.
Moreover, Golden Rations play a key role in unlocking Sycoms, which are crucial for defining your chosen Breaker's stats and core passive abilities. Sycoms essentially shape your Breaker's playstyle, making them highly valuable.
Upon earning your first Golden Ration, we highly recommend investing in the extra medkit upgrade from Pherus Bit. This upgrade can significantly ease future runs, particularly given the game's challenging combat dynamics that penalize mistakes.
If you die during a run, you'll retain any resources you've gathered. However, the weapons, amps, and perks you carried will suffer one pip's worth of damage, which could lead to their permanent destruction.
