Universal Pictures has unveiled the first image from Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated film, The Odyssey, showcasing Hollywood star Matt Damon in the iconic role of Odysseus.

Following the blockbuster success of his 2023 biopic Oppenheimer, Nolan's next venture, The Odyssey, reimagines the ancient Greek epic poem originally penned in the 8th or 7th century BC. This mythic action epic is set to captivate audiences worldwide when it premieres on July 17, 2026.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Christopher Nolan’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.

The Odyssey chronicles the arduous journey of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, as he navigates a decade-long odyssey to return home following the Trojan War. While Universal has kept further plot details under wraps, the film is already generating buzz with its impressive ensemble cast.

Matt Damon, who first entered discussions to star in Nolan's latest project, returns to Universal after his acclaimed performance in Oppenheimer, which secured seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Joining Damon are rumored co-stars Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, and Robert Pattinson, promising a stellar lineup for this epic retelling.
