Nintendo has confirmed that players can utilize the new Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls on the Home screen.
Since the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, fans have speculated about the functionality of the new Joy-Con mouse controls. Last month, Nintendo officially confirmed the "mouse mode" feature, allowing players to slide the controllers across surfaces while using the analog sticks to simulate left and right clicks, much like a traditional mouse. Players can even use two Joy-Con simultaneously—one in each hand—or mix modes with one in mouse mode and the other in standard mode.
Now, we’ve learned more. As demonstrated on the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter, the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls are fully functional on the Switch 2’s Home menu.

Nintendo explains: "Placing the Joy-Con 2 controller on a flat surface with the attachment side facing down activates an on-screen cursor. To enable the cursor, set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or flat surface and move it as demonstrated."
The company adds: "While in mouse mode, tilting the control stick scrolls through menus. Mouse controls function on the Home menu and within compatible software." Returning to standard thumbstick control is simple—just lift the Joy-Con 2 from the surface to resume traditional input.
Though the full list of mouse-compatible games remains unconfirmed, Nintendo has demonstrated the feature with Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the wheelchair basketball title Drag x Drive.
The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 launches on June 5. Pre-orders went live on April 24, with the price holding steady at $449.99—and demand was predictably high. For further details, check out IGN’s Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
