Nintendo has unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, an innovative game designed to introduce players to the features of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This unique offering, however, won't be bundled with the console; instead, it will be available as a separate, paid digital game on the Nintendo eShop from the Switch 2's launch day.
During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo showcased the Welcome Tour as a "virtual exhibition" of the new hardware. The game promises an immersive experience through tech demos, minigames, and various interactions, allowing players to explore the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2 in depth. Footage from the Direct revealed a player avatar navigating a larger-than-life model of the Switch 2, learning about its features and engaging in fun minigames such as Speed Golf, Dodge the Spiked Balls, and a Maracas Physics Demo. The experience is akin to a virtual museum dedicated to the new console.
Despite the excitement around this educational tool, fans have expressed surprise and curiosity about its status as a paid digital game rather than a complimentary pack-in with the console. As of now, no specific price has been announced for the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025, with a price of $449.99 USD, or $499.99 for a bundle that includes Mario Kart World. Alongside the Welcome Tour, the console will debut with other titles such as Mario Kart World, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster, and Deltarune Chapters 1 through 4. With a variety of launch titles vying for attention, the Welcome Tour will need to stand out to justify its separate purchase.
