This adjustment aligns with Microsoft's broader price increases, as detailed in a May 1 announcement. According to the statement, Xbox has updated the recommended retail prices for its consoles and controllers. Additionally, first-party titles will adopt a $79.99 starting price beginning this holiday season.

"We recognize these changes are difficult, and they were made after careful analysis of market trends and escalating development expenses. Moving forward, we remain committed to expanding gameplay options across devices and delivering outstanding value to the Xbox community," the company stated.

Despite advance notice, the consistent price increases across the video game industry continue to disappoint fans. Recently, Nintendo launched the Switch 2 alongside Mario Kart World as its debut title, which also became Nintendo's first $80 game. In April, Sony announced PS5 price hikes across Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Numerous major publishers seem to be adopting this trend, with players ultimately feeling the impact.

The Outer Worlds 2 presentation during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8 showcased Obsidian Entertainment's promising follow-up to its acclaimed sci-fi shooter. However, the new pricing approach may influence how the game is received at launch.

Surprisingly, these Xbox first-party games will receive physical releases exclusively on PlayStation 5.
