Pebbles vs. Herring: Best Choice in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2?

Author : Adam Mar 28,2025

In *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, choosing the right horse is crucial for Henry, especially after losing everything in the prologue. You'll have the option between two horses: Pebbles and Herring. Let's dive into the details to help you make the best choice.

How To Find Pebbles in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

You'll reunite with Pebbles at the Semine estate before the wedding between Lord Semine and Agnes. She's waiting at the stables, but you'll need to purchase her to ride her during your quest with Jan Semine, known as "The Jaunt." Pebbles is more than just a horse; she's Henry's trusted companion, much like Mutt, who you can also find through side quests.

How To Receive Herring in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

After completing the quest "For Whom the Bell Tolls," you can choose to take Herring as your new horse. If you haven't acquired Pebbles or another horse by this point, Herring comes courtesy of Otto von Bergow. If you already have a horse and decide against Herring, you can sell him to nomad traders through Kabat for 300 Groschen.

At first glance, Herring might seem the better choice due to his higher base stats. However, this can be misleading. Each horse unlocks a perk after being ridden a certain distance, which varies for each horse. This perk boosts the horse's stats, meaning horses with initially better stats don't necessarily end up with the best stats later in the game.

Pebbles, despite not having the highest stats even after her boost, is the best choice for several reasons. You can acquire her at a lower cost compared to many other horses, and her perk is unlocked after riding just 35 kilometers, compared to Herring's 50 kilometers. With Pebbles, you get:

  • 217 stamina
  • 353 capacity
  • 53 speed
  • 12 courage

Pebbles is not only reliable but also offers decent stats. The fact that you can obtain her early and unlock her perk faster than with other horses makes her an excellent bargain. Plus, there's the sentimental value of her having been with Henry before the game begins and journeying alongside him.

When deciding between Pebbles and Herring in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, Pebbles is the clear winner. With a lot of traveling ahead, you need a steed you can trust, and Pebbles fits the bill perfectly.

*Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
