Niantic has announced the Pokémon GO Lunar New Year 2025 event, starting January 29th, offering players chances to catch Lucky Pokémon, Shiny Pokémon, and other exciting rewards. Similar to the Fashion Week event, completing Field Research tasks yields bonus rewards.

Pokémon GO's ninth anniversary in 2025 will see numerous events and updates leading up to the summer and Pokémon GO Fest, including Pokémon GO Tour: Unova (February 21st-23rd in Los Angeles and New Taipei City, and globally in March). The Lunar New Year event provides a chance to add new Pokémon to your collection before the Unova event.

The Pokémon GO Lunar New Year event runs from January 29th, 10:00 a.m. to February 2nd, 8:00 p.m. local time. Increased chances for Lucky Pokémon from trades and becoming Lucky Friends are featured. Wild encounters with Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini will be more frequent, including Shiny variants. Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi will hatch from 2 km Eggs.

Niantic Reveals Pokémon GO Lunar New Year 2025 Event Dates and Content

  • Event Dates: Wednesday, January 29th, 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, February 2nd, 8:00 p.m. local time.
  • Event Bonuses:
    • Increased chance of Lucky Pokémon in trades.
    • Increased chance of becoming Lucky Friends.
    • Increased wild spawns of Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini.
    • Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi hatching from 2 km Eggs.
  • Rewards: Timed Research, Field Research, and Routes will reward Stardust, XP, Zygarde Cells, and Pokémon encounters. A paid Timed Research ($2) offers additional rewards including two Lucky Eggs and an incubator.

Lunar New Year-themed Field Research and Timed Research tasks, along with Routes, will grant Stardust, XP, and event Pokémon encounters. Zygarde Cells are obtainable through Routes. A paid Timed Research ($2) offers extra rewards: two Lucky Eggs, an incubator, and encounters with Ekans and Nosepass. All rewards must be claimed before February 2nd, 8:00 p.m. local time.

Players can showcase their Lunar New Year Pokémon at PokéStops for additional rewards, including item bundles. An event-themed Collection Challenge will offer bonus Stardust for trading, benefiting frequent traders.
