REDMAGIC Nova Review - A Must Have Tablet For Gamers?

Author : Ava Nov 09,2024

We’ve covered a fair few REDMAGIC products on Droid Gamers, most notably the REDMAGIC 9 Pro. We called that the “best gaming mobile around” – so it’s perhaps no real surprise to find that we’re saying that the Nova is quite simply the best gaming tablet around. We’ll explore why that is with five simple to digest reasons. Ready?Look and Feel

Quite simply this is a tablet that you can tell has been made with a lot of tender love and care, and especially for use by gamers. It’s neither featherweight and flimsy, or sturdy and tough to hold for long periods.
With a futuristic style it has a semi-transparent panel running the width of the rear it certainly feels the part, with a RGB-illuminated REDMAGIC logo and an RGB fan completing the striking look.
Our time with the tablet saw it take a few dings too, and it didn’t get damaged in the slightest by any of them. It boasts durability along with style.
Limitless Power
Okay, maybe not limitless power. But there’s enough power inside the Nova to make it a true beast in the tablet gaming space.
With a Snapdragon 8 Gen. 3 processor under the hood along with DTS-X audio with a four speaker setup this is a device that boasts everything you need to make playing almost any game a breeze.
Reliable Battery Life

Despite the powerful processor we did find the battery life of the sleek Nova to be above average, with a full charge giving us roughly 8-10 hours of immersive gaming.

The battery does drain a little even on standby sadly, but even with that in mind we found even the most graphically intensive of titles didn’t cause the Nova too many issues in terms of power drain.

Gaming Nirvana

As mentioned we tried out a lot of games on our Nexus and there was no slowdown or lag with any of them. The touchscreen was also superbly responsive with every title we tried, and the web connection was rapid when downloading apps or connecting with a game’s server.

Any title we played felt like a perfect fit for the Nova too, from casual to hardcore fare. Where this comes into its own is with competitive titles though, primarily online ones.

We felt we had the edge every time we played people on a smartphone, with the larger crisp screen and touchscreen. Not only that but the Nova’s superior sound helped us hear every important piece of audio in the more action orientated fare we played.

Gamer-Centric Enhancements

There are some extra features on the Nova tablet that almost made us feel like we’re cheating. REDMAGIC have added these themselves, which you can access by swiping from either side of the screen

This gave us access to overclocked performance modes, notification blocking, network prioritization, quick messaging and brightness locking.

Where the (possibly unfair) advantage comes in is the ability to resize your game screen, but even set up automatic triggers for actions in games. We didn’t use these too much – if at all – though. Honest.

So, is it worth it?

In a word, yes. If you are into gaming on a tablet you simply can’t find a better solution than the REDMAGIC Nova. There are small issues here and there, but they pale into insignificance when you consider the features and power the Nova offers. You can find it on the REDMAGIC site by clicking here.
