Samsung 990 Evo Plus 2TB, 4TB SSDs on Sale: Ideal for PS5, Gaming PCs

Samsung's latest SSD, the Samsung 990 Evo Plus PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe solid state drive, is currently on sale, offering exceptional value for both gamers and tech enthusiasts. You can grab the 2TB model for just $129.99 or opt for the 4TB version at an even more compelling price of $249.99. These prices are $40-$70 less than the Samsung 990 Pro, and for most gamers, the performance difference is negligible.

The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is an outstanding choice for both your gaming PC and PlayStation 5 console. It surpasses Sony's minimum speed requirements for the PS5, with impressive sequential read speeds of up to 7,250MB/s and write speeds of 6,300MB/s. While it's faster than the non-Pro 990 Evo, it falls slightly short of the 990 Pro's speeds. The key distinction from the 990 Pro is its DRAM-less design. However, this doesn't affect PS5 performance. For gaming PCs, the 990 Evo Plus utilizes HMB (host memory buffer) technology, which compensates for the lack of DRAM by using a small amount of system memory, ensuring gamers won't notice any performance difference.

The 990 Evo Plus does not come with a pre-installed heatsink. However, its new single-sided design is more power-efficient and generates less heat than previous SSDs. This means you likely won't need a heatsink, and the drive should perform well in a PS5 without thermal throttling. For added peace of mind, you can install a heatsink, though it would cost an extra $7.
