Samsung has taken the wraps off the Galaxy S25 Edge, its latest flagship smartphone, during its May Unpacked event. While the phone shares much in common with the standard Galaxy S25 released earlier this year, its slimmer profile is designed to give it a distinct advantage.
On paper, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is strikingly similar to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. It runs on the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and sports a comparable 200MP camera. The key distinction lies in the chassis, which has been refined to a mere 5.8mm thickness—significantly leaner than the 8.2mm profile of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Naturally, this more slender build also makes the device lighter, tipping the scales at just 163 grams.
The phone is equipped with the same 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X display found on the Samsung Galaxy S25, even though its core specifications are nearly identical to the slightly larger 6.9-inch Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.
With such a thin and sizable device, durability is a primary concern. Samsung states it has tackled this by upgrading to the new Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, which is claimed to be tougher than the Gorilla Glass Armor 2 used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The more pressing question for many will be how it holds up to everyday stress, like being sat on in a pocket, rather than just surviving drops. (Will this be enough to prevent a new "bendgate" controversy?)
Of course, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge also comes with the full suite of "Mobile AI" tools that first appeared on the Samsung Galaxy S24 last year and were further enhanced in 2025. The Snapdragon 8 Elite processor enables a significant amount of AI processing to be handled directly on the device, which is a major plus for privacy. However, many AI applications will still depend on cloud connectivity. Samsung does include some compelling features, such as the ability to summarize notifications and news articles at a glance, for those who find that useful.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is available for pre-order starting today. The 256GB model begins at $1,099, while the 512GB version is priced at $1,219. The phone is offered in three color variants: Titanium Silver, Titanium Jet Black, and Titanium Icyblue.
Samsung is making a strong case for the durability of this slender phone; here's hoping their confidence is well-placed.
