Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon Digs its Way Out of Netflix Games

Netflix Games users will soon be saying goodbye to Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon. Developer Yacht Club Games announced the game's departure from the streaming service, clarifying that it will remain available on other platforms including Steam, Switch, and PlayStation 4.

While this news may disappoint Netflix subscribers who discovered the game through the platform, Yacht Club Games offered a glimmer of hope, stating they are exploring additional distribution options. A standalone mobile release is a strong possibility, though a precise timeline remains unclear.

The Perils of Subscription Gaming

The removal highlights a key risk inherent in subscription gaming services: reduced ownership and reliance on developers for continued access. Unlike traditional game purchases, subscription-based games are subject to removal, leaving players at the mercy of the developer's future plans.

Yacht Club Games likely has various avenues open to them, assuming no contractual limitations exist following their departure from Netflix Games. A potential return in 2025 is possible, but nothing is confirmed.

For now, there are plenty of other games to explore. Check out our latest list of top mobile games for more options!
