The SK Hynix P41 Platinum Is Still of the Fastest 2TB M.2 SSDs, and Now One of the Least Expensive

Author : Claire Mar 31,2025

Amazon has recently slashed the price of the 2TB SK Hynix P41 Platinum PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVME solid state drive (SSD) to just $129.99, including shipping. This SSD stands out as one of the fastest PCI-E 4.0 SSDs on the market, featuring a DRAM cache and offering significant savings compared to other high-end models like the Samsung 990 Pro ($168) and the WD SN850X ($154). It's an ideal choice for enhancing your PlayStation 5 or gaming PC with top-tier performance.

SK Hynix P41 Platinum 2TB M.2 SSD for $129.99

Originally priced at $149.99, you can now save 13% and get it for $129.99 at Amazon. While SK Hynix may not be as well-known to consumers as brands like Samsung or Western Digital, it's a powerhouse in the flash memory industry. As a leading South Korean DRAM manufacturer and one of the world's largest memory chipmakers, SK Hynix supplies components to well-known brands such as Corsair and G.Skill.

The Platinum P41 is SK Hynix's flagship SSD, delivering impressive sustained read speeds of 7,000MB/s and write speeds of 6,500MB/s, along with random read speeds of 1.4 million IOPS and write speeds of 1.3 million IOPS. It includes a dedicated DRAM cache, a feature often missing in SSDs at this price point, which typically rely on HMB or system memory. The Platinum P41 has undergone rigorous testing, with 1,000 hours of stress testing and an MTBF of 1.5 million hours, capable of handling up to 1,200TB written. It uses an in-house Aries controller and 176-layer TLC NAND flash chips, and comes with a 5-year warranty.

This is a great PS5 SSD, but you'll want to get a heatsink

----------------------------------------------------------

The SK Hynix P41 Platinum is an excellent choice as a secondary SSD for your PlayStation 5, easily surpassing Sony's minimum speed recommendation of 5,600MB/s. While it might function without a heatsink, we recommend adding one for added safety and performance stability. A suitable slim PS5 heatsink can be found for just $7.

Prefer Samsung? Then check out their Evo Plus model.

Originally $184.99, now save 30% and get it for $129.99 at Amazon.

Samsung 990 Evo Plus 4TB PCIe Gen 4x4 M.2 SSD

Originally $349.99, now save 29% and get it for $249.99 at Amazon.

The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is a stellar option for both gaming PCs and PlayStation 5 consoles, exceeding Sony's minimum speed requirements with sequential read speeds up to 7,250MB/s and write speeds up to 6,300MB/s. It's faster than the non-Pro 990 Evo but slightly slower than the 990 Pro. The key difference is that the 990 Evo Plus is a DRAM-less drive, which doesn't impact PS5 performance and uses HMB to compensate for the lack of DRAM in gaming PCs, ensuring seamless gameplay.
