Sony Unveils teamLFG: New PlayStation Studio Crafts Team-Based Action Game

Author : Hannah May 14,2025

Sony has recently unveiled a new PlayStation studio named teamLFG, which originated from the renowned Destiny and Marathon developer, Bungie. In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, expressed his excitement about teamLFG's ambitious incubation project.

The name teamLFG, which stands for 'Looking For Group,' hints at the studio's focus on social gaming. Their debut game is described as a team-based action game that draws inspiration from a diverse range of genres including fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and "frog-type games." Set in a lighthearted, comedic world within a new mythic, science-fantasy universe, the game aims to foster friendship, community, and belonging among players.

teamLFG emphasizes creating immersive multiplayer worlds where players can enjoy countless hours of gameplay, learning, playing, and mastering the game. They plan to involve the community in the development process through early access playtests, ensuring they can adapt to player feedback both before and after launch, as they continue to grow the game and its community over the years.

The studio's mission is to create an environment where players feel excited to log on and find their teammates already online, recognize familiar names, and create memorable moments that become the stuff of legends and memes within the community. As they put it, "dat’s da good stuff."

teamLFG's game is the result of an incubation project that was spun out of Bungie during significant layoffs in 2023 and 2024. Following Sony's acquisition, Bungie faced challenges with Destiny 2's performance, leading to layoffs and the eventual spin-off of this project. Amid these changes, Bungie has also revealed plans for the extraction shooter Marathon and confirmed the roadmap for Destiny 2, while canceling a Destiny spinoff called Payback and reportedly having no plans for Destiny 3.
