Surprise-announced during February's PlayStation State of Play, a new trailer revealed the Open Alpha Test will run from February 27th, 2025, to March 2nd, 2025, on consoles and PC.

What to Expect in Splitgate 2’s Open Alpha Test

According to 1047 Games Lead Writer Nate Dern (via the PlayStation Blog), the Open Alpha will feature crossplay and a brand-new 24-player mode: Multi-Team Portal Warfare. Three teams of eight will battle across Splitgate’s largest map yet, experimenting with new weapons, perks, and equipment amidst the signature chaotic gameplay.

The core of the original Splitgate's appeal—its innovative portal mechanics—remains central. Players can still chain together incredible plays using portals, creating mind-bending trick shots and strategic maneuvers.

While the sequel introduces new classes (or factions) with unique abilities, the portal mechanic remains the heart of the experience. Dern emphasizes that internal and external feedback has shaped the game's foundation, aiming to deliver a defining FPS experience.
