Type-40 Sword Guide Now Live for NieR: Automata

In NieR:Automata, short swords boast rapid attack speeds and compact hitboxes, making them versatile weapons against diverse enemies. While weapon upgrades enhance their longevity, numerous powerful weapons, like the Type-40 sword, offer significant power boosts after upgrades. This guide details how to obtain this often-missed weapon.

Obtaining the Type-40 Sword

The Type-40 sword is the reward for completing the side quest "Find a Present," the culmination of a questline involving Operator 6O. Unlocking this quest requires completing two preceding side quests. Here's a step-by-step guide, including chapter selection points:

  1. After defeating Adam and Eve in Chapter 5, you'll receive a call from Operator 6O. This initiates the "Investigating Communications" quest—complete it immediately as it's easily missed.
  2. Progress through Chapter 6 (Forest Castle events) and into Chapter 7.
  3. After speaking with Pascal about A2, explore the city ruins until you receive another call from Operator 6O, directing you to an access point to start "Terminal Repairs."
  4. While returning to the Resistance Camp during Chapter 7, a final call from Operator 6O will mention flowers and send a message to your inbox.
  5. Interact with this message to begin "Find a Present."
  6. Upon completion, the Type-40 Sword will be delivered to your inbox.

Type-40 Sword Stats & Upgrades

At level 1, the Type-40 Sword performs a 5-hit light attack combo and a 3-hit heavy attack combo. Upgrading it to level 4 increases the light attack combo to 7 hits and enhances its effectiveness against stunned enemies. Titanium Alloy is required for these upgrades.

Additional Rewards for "Find a Present"

Completing "Find a Present" also yields:

  • A130: Bomb
  • Amber x 4
  • 5,000 G
  • 800 EXP
