NieR: Automata Filler Metal Guide: Locations and Purchase Options

Obtaining upgrade materials in NieR: Automata can be challenging. Many drop from enemies, but some, like Filler Metal, appear randomly in the environment, introducing an element of RNG to farming. Early in the game, you'll need to find it; later, purchasing it becomes an option, albeit an expensive one.

Where to Find Filler Metal in NieR: Automata

Filler Metal is a rare item found in specific locations within the Factory. Its spawn point varies each playthrough, and it has a low drop rate compared to other items. After progressing through the main story and accessing the Factory: Hanger fast travel point, you'll have an efficient starting point for searching. Note that you might need to unlock this access point again depending on your story progress.

While increased movement speed helps, reliably farming Filler Metal remains difficult. Your best strategy is to thoroughly explore the Factory, collecting all naturally spawning items. However, buying it is the most reliable method if you have the resources.

Where to Buy Filler Metal in NieR: Automata

Filler Metal is only available for purchase from the Shopkeeper Machine in the Amusement Park. This option unlocks only after completing all three playthroughs and obtaining a final ending. Using Chapter Select to revisit the Shopkeeper after beating the game will reveal Filler Metal in its inventory, priced at 11,250 G each.

Although costly, buying Filler Metal offers a significantly more reliable method than repeated Factory runs. Since Pod upgrades requiring Filler Metal are crucial for defeating high-level enemies, this purchase is often a necessary investment.
