Warner Bros. Announces The Shutdown Of Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Just One Year After Its Launch

Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile title, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its launch. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. Read on for details about the game's closure.

In-game purchases will be disabled starting August 23rd, 2024, with servers officially shutting down on October 21st, 2024. After this date, the game will be unplayable.

While the exact reasons for the shutdown remain unannounced, NetherRealm's recent closure of its mobile games division (responsible for Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice) suggests a broader strategic shift impacting their mobile game portfolio.

What Happens to In-App Purchases?

Players who made in-app purchases are awaiting clarification regarding refunds for in-game currency and items. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. have yet to provide details on this matter but promise further updates soon. Follow their official X (formerly Twitter) account for the latest information.

Launched in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary (initially announced in October 2022), Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the Mortal Kombat universe. Unlike its fighting game predecessors, this action-adventure RPG blended combat with a cinematic storyline, similar to free-to-play mobile MOBAs. The narrative centered on Raiden and the player's team thwarting the fallen Elder God Shinnok's power grab.

This concludes our report on the Mortal Kombat: Onslaught shutdown. Check out our other gaming news for more updates!
