Story

Botanicula opens with an animated sequence that sets the stage: a monstrous spider devours the life from the elven trees, and five unlikely heroes set out to rescue the last Elven Tree. These five warriors are Poppy Head, Mr. Feather, Miss Mushroom, Mr. Twig, and Mr. Lantern.

Each possesses unique abilities: Poppy Head's strength can topple hard objects; Mr. Feather flies to collect distant items; Miss Mushroom's soft body bounces with ease; Mr. Twig defies gravity to walk on walls; and Mr. Lantern's belly can hide things. While their setup might seem simple, these five are far from typical magical heroes. They act more like a band of misfits, cheering over small victories and shrinking in fear before creatures far larger and fiercer than themselves.

While the quintet is central, most puzzles are solved not by them directly, but by interacting with the myriad strange and wonderful creatures you meet. A wise player takes time to engage with each being, even those seeming unrelated to a puzzle. Doing so reveals their unique lives and adds them to your wizard book. Thus, the true protagonists, fitting the game's name meaning "All Elves," are the tree's inhabitants themselves.
