ByteDance Transfers US Publishing to Skystone in Major Shake-Up

Author : Scarlett Apr 27,2025

In a significant shift within the mobile gaming industry, popular titles such as Marvel Snap and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang are transitioning to a new publisher. ByteDance, the previous publisher, will no longer handle these releases in the US. Instead, Skystone Games, a US-based company, is stepping in to manage these games, introducing new region-specific versions tailored for American players.

Earlier this year, the spotlight was on the TikTok ban, which led to a voluntary offlining of the app. However, the mobile gaming community was more concerned with the ripple effects this had on top games. Marvel Snap, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and others were abruptly removed from app stores, often without warning to the development teams or the player base. This action was part of a broader political push to force ByteDance to divest from its social media platform.

While TikTok has since returned, the same cannot be said for all the affected games. Marvel Snap, for instance, quickly sought a new publisher and found one in Skystone Games, which now oversees virtually all of ByteDance's US-published titles.

Touch the skyThe unexpected entanglement of mobile gaming in political maneuvers was not anticipated, yet it's a development that many players will welcome. This transition ensures that fans can continue enjoying their favorite games, either as usual or through US-specific versions.

However, this outcome is less than ideal, as it highlights how games can become pawns in political games. The looming deadline for a potential TikTok sale could further illustrate how political decisions impact apps and, by extension, the games published by the same companies. This situation underscores the potential risks for similar scenarios in the future.
