Remember Hytale? The project Hypixel Studios began in 2015. That's a full decade ago! Riot Games later acquired the studio and the project in 2020, only to cancel the game in June 2025.
But now, it's back!
The game has been reclaimed by its original creators. Hypixel co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme has purchased Hytale back from Riot Games, calling it a thrilling new chapter for the team and community.
Now fully independent, the team is personally funding the next decade of development. They're returning to the Legacy engine from the original trailer to focus on rapid progress and getting a playable version into players' hands faster.
While a specific early access date isn't set yet, the studio promises an announcement within days. The initial launch will be on PC, with other platforms like mobile following much later.
So, what is Hytale? It's a sandbox adventure with RPG-like progression. Explore a vast, procedurally generated world filled with dungeons, secrets, and creatures, then reshape it block by block.
At launch, the focus will be on Exploration Mode, Creative Mode, and modding support. Features like a full Adventure Mode and Minigames will arrive later, with a dedicated team working on the latter.
The developers state that modding is crucial to Hytale's long-term success. The early access version will launch with extensive modding tools for both content creation and server customization.
Community participation is key to finishing Hytale
This means playing early access, reporting bugs, giving constructive feedback, creating mods, and sharing knowledge. Here's hoping the early access version arrives soon so everyone can dive in!
In case you need a refresher, here's the game's original trailer. You can find more details on the official website.
