After a remarkable 25-year hiatus, Capcom's cherished role-playing game, Breath of Fire IV, has been resurrected on PC, breathing new life into a classic. Originally launched on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, and later in Europe in 2001, the game also saw a PC port release in Europe and Japan in 2003. The story follows Ryu, a protagonist distinct from Capcom's other famous Ryu, who possesses the unique ability to transform into a dragon. Alongside a group of valiant warriors, Ryu embarks on a quest to thwart an emperor's sinister plans to obliterate the world.
As part of its dedicated Preservation Program, GOG has meticulously updated Breath of Fire IV, ensuring it runs seamlessly on modern PCs. The game is now available DRM-free on GOG's platform, fully optimized for Windows 10 and 11. Players can enjoy the game in both English and Japanese, with enhanced graphics thanks to an upgraded DirectX renderer. New display options such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction enhance the visual experience. Additionally, the audio engine has been overhauled, restoring missing environmental sounds and introducing new configuration options for an immersive auditory journey.
