Confront Wakasa or Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows: What to Choose?

Author : Aaliyah May 02,2025

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, not every choice carries significant weight, but deciding whether to confront Wakasa or Otama during the "The Tea Ceremony" mission will shape the rest of your campaign. Both participants in the tea ceremony seem suspicious, but there's a clear choice that simplifies the quest significantly.

Should You Confront Wakasa or Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

After the tea ceremony in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, the best course of action is to confront Wakasa. She is the Golden Teppo of the Onryo, and identifying her correctly allows for the easiest resolution to the mission. When you confront Wakasa, she invites Naoe to her home for a private discussion. Upon entering, you'll spot a telling clue: the kasa (straw hat) she wore as the Onryo during the prologue, hanging on her wall, confirming you've chosen the right target.

After a brief exchange, the scene culminates in Naoe seizing the opportunity to end the mission swiftly by grabbing Wakasa's Teppo from the wall and shooting her point-blank.

What If You Confront Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Choosing to confront Otama after the tea ceremony complicates the mission. Even though you can eventually kill Wakasa, mistakenly targeting Otama first leads to a more challenging path. You'll have to chase and eliminate Otama, only to find a letter proving her corruption, but this delay allows Wakasa to fortify her position in Osaka Castle.

To reach Wakasa, you must navigate to Osaka Castle, dealing with her soldiers either through stealth or direct combat. Even if you've unlocked the nearby Osaka Tenshu fast travel point, you'll still encounter standard enemies. Sneaking up on Wakasa for an assassination attempt won't suffice, forcing a one-on-one confrontation. Though the boss fight isn't overly difficult, choosing to confront Wakasa directly from the start makes for a less complicated and more satisfying cinematic kill, especially given her role in Naoe's father's death.

Now that you know the optimal choice for the Tea Ceremony mission, consider strategies for gaining XP and leveling up quickly in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* to tackle the game's tougher challenges. Additionally, learn how to earn more Knowledge Points to unlock additional skills for Naoe and Yasuke.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.*
