Former Toys for Bob concept artist Nicholas Kole hinted at a canceled Crash Bandicoot 5 in a recent X (formerly Twitter) post. This revelation followed a discussion about another scrapped project, "Project Dragon," a new IP unrelated to Spyro, as Kole clarified.
Kole's comment, "It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts," sparked considerable disappointment among fans. The news is particularly disheartening given the success of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, which sold over five million copies.
The cancellation seemingly coincides with Toys for Bob's transition to an independent studio after parting ways with Activision Blizzard earlier this year. While the studio is now collaborating with Microsoft Xbox for its next project, details remain scarce. Following Crash Bandicoot 4 were Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! and Crash Team Rumble, the latter ending its live service in March 2023.
The future of Crash Bandicoot 5 remains uncertain. While Toys for Bob now enjoys greater creative freedom, whether this translates to a revival of the canceled project remains to be seen. Fans will undoubtedly hope for a future announcement.
