Guillermo del Toro's lifelong fascination with Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is undeniable. A recent Netflix preview showcased a first look at his highly anticipated adaptation, though a full trailer remains elusive until summer. The image reveals Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein.
Del Toro, in a video message, confessed his decades-long pursuit of this project, stating, "This film has been on my mind since I was a child — for 50 years. I’ve been trying to make it for 20 to 25 years. In fact, some people may even think I am a little bit obsessed with Frankenstein." The video offered a glimpse into his personal "Frankenstein room," filled with related memorabilia, underscoring his deep-seated passion.
Brief footage showcased Isaac's Victor Frankenstein confronting Mia Goth's aristocratic character, and Jacob Elordi's portrayal of the monster, described as having "long black hair, stitched-up gray skin, and a glint of red in his eyes." This footage, however, is not yet publicly available.
Del Toro poignantly remarked, "Over the decades, the character has fused with my soul in a way that it has become an autobiography. It doesn’t get more personal than this." This statement highlights the deeply personal nature of this long-gestating project for the acclaimed director of Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy.
