Destiny: Updates Unveiled, Resurging Interest After Seven Years

Destiny 1's Tower Mysteriously Updated with Festive Lights

Seven years after its initial release, Destiny's iconic Tower social space has received an unexpected update, adorned with festive lights and decorations. This surprising addition, discovered by players on January 5th, has sparked much speculation among the community. The original Destiny, while still playable, largely faded into the background after Destiny 2's launch in 2017.

While Destiny 2 continues to thrive with regular content updates, a dedicated fanbase still enjoys the original game. This unexpected update in the Tower has reignited nostalgia for many. The decorations, featuring Ghost-shaped lights, resemble those from past Destiny seasonal events like The Dawning, but without the accompanying snow or event-specific banners. No new quests or in-game announcements accompanied the sudden changes.

A Forgotten Event Resurfaces?

The community's theories point towards a scrapped event, tentatively titled "Days of the Dawning," originally planned for 2016. Reddit user Breshi's analysis suggests a strong resemblance between unused assets from this cancelled event and the current Tower decorations. The prevailing theory is that a placeholder date far in the future was assigned to the scrapped event's code, leading to its unexpected reappearance. Bungie likely assumed the original Destiny would be offline by then.

As of this writing, Bungie hasn't commented on the unexpected update. The year 2017 marked a significant shift for the franchise, with all live events transitioning to Destiny 2. This unannounced, accidental update offers a unique and temporary experience for players before Bungie inevitably removes it. Enjoy the unexpected holiday cheer while it lasts!
