Dragon Quest 3 Remake: How to Get the Yellow Orb

This guide explains how to obtain the elusive Yellow Orb in the Dragon Quest III Remake. While the process is relatively simple, finding the starting point can be challenging. This guide will help you navigate this and acquire the Yellow Orb.

The Yellow Orb is located in Merchantburg, a town initially designated as "???" on the map. The town's name is determined by the merchant you hire and leave there. You must establish and develop this village before obtaining the orb.

Locating Merchantburg (???)

After obtaining the ship from the King of Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), Merchantburg's location becomes accessible. With quest markers enabled, it will be shown in the northeast corner of the world map. You can sail west from the coast to reach the easternmost edge of the eastern continent.

Optimal Timing for Visiting Merchantburg

While orb acquisition order is flexible, visiting Merchantburg early (immediately after getting the ship) is recommended. The town requires significant growth time before yielding the Yellow Orb. Establishing it early allows you to collect other orbs concurrently.

Obtaining the Yellow Orb

Establishing Merchantburg:

1. Hire a new Merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Minimize combat en route.
2. Proceed to Merchantburg (???) and enter the lone building.
3. Speak to the old man to initiate town establishment. Offer your hired Merchant. The town's name will then be established.

Returning to Merchantburg:

Merchantburg undergoes five growth stages, each marked by a notification prompting a return visit. The town expands progressively, culminating in a large cabaret's construction. After each visit (except the last), you'll see the town has grown. On your fourth visit, your merchant may become arrogant, foreshadowing the town's rebellion.

The Final Visit and Orb Acquisition:

Visit Merchantburg at night during your fifth visit. The Merchant will be absent from his home. The townspeople have revolted, imprisoning him in the house south of his residence.

Speak to the imprisoned Merchant. He'll reveal the Yellow Orb's location. Return to his house; a quest marker will appear behind the sofa. Interact with the ground behind the sofa to unearth the Yellow Orb.

The Yellow Orb is typically the penultimate orb acquired. Other orb locations include: Red Orb (Pirates' Den), Green Orb (Theddon), and Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine).
