Nintendo is set to excite fans with the opening of its San Francisco store today, May 15, located in Union Square at 331 Powell Street. This marks the second official Nintendo store in the United States, following the footsteps of the renowned New York location. Initially known as the Nintendo World Store, the New York outlet underwent renovations and a rebranding to Nintendo NY, reopening its doors to the public in 2016.
IGN had the privilege of visiting the new San Francisco store to explore what Nintendo has in store for its fans. Additionally, we had the opportunity to sit down with Nintendo of America's president, Doug Bowser, to discuss the strategic decision behind opening their first West Coast store at this time.
During our conversation, we couldn't help but delve into the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, slated for launch on June 5. We asked Bowser about the availability of the Switch 2 in the U.S. at launch and in the future, as well as his thoughts on the controversial Game-Key Cards, among other topics.
