Written by Aubrey Sitterson (No One Left to Fight) and illustrated by Jed Dougherty (Savage Hearts), with covers by Dougherty and Fico Ossio, Free Planet tells the story of humanity's first truly free planet and the revolutionary heroes tasked with protecting its unique energy source from hostile intergalactic forces. The series explores the true meaning of freedom and the sacrifices it demands, weaving together the intricate world-building of East of West with the emotional depth of Saga.

Sitterson describes Free Planet as "the shape of comics to come," aiming for a literary approach with visually rich complexity. Dougherty notes the shift towards a more serious tone in his artwork, reflecting the story's themes of internal conflict, resource defense, societal rebuilding, and the pursuit of justice and love.
