IGN has exciting news for fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong. The highly anticipated game from Team Cherry, which has dominated the Steam wishlist chart for years, will be available to play at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, starting September 18, 2025. While Team Cherry, based in Adelaide, South Australia, has only hinted at a 2025 release window, this event marks a significant milestone for eager gamers.
Hollow Knight: Silksong will be featured as part of a video game exhibition called Game Worlds at the Melbourne museum. This exhibit will not only allow visitors to play the game but also offer an in-depth look at its design and artistic direction.

Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, expressed their excitement about showcasing Silksong: “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!”
As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, one of several design elements that will be on display in the Game Worlds exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with permission.
With the game set to be playable at the museum from September 18, fans are hopeful that Silksong's official release might precede this date, possibly even as early as August. The anticipation has only grown following Silksong's brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, where Team Cherry confirmed the 2025 release window. This brief showcase included new gameplay footage and was the most significant update on Silksong in years.
Initially announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, Silksong's reach has expanded to include Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The game has been at the center of numerous intriguing teases, including a mysterious chocolate cake recipe hint at the beginning of 2025, which fueled speculation about a potential re-reveal in April.
