"Hollow Knight: Silksong Steam Update Hints at 2025 Release"

Author : Connor Apr 06,2025

Recent developments surrounding Hollow Knight: Silksong have reignited excitement and speculation among fans. Microsoft's mention of the game in an official Xbox post, coupled with significant backend changes to its Steam listing, suggest that a re-reveal and potential release could be on the horizon.

On March 24, the Steam metadata for Hollow Knight: Silksong was updated, as noted on SteamDB. These updates included an opt-in for the game on GeForce Now, Nvidia's video game streaming platform, along with changes to assets and the legal lines on the Steam store page. Notably, the copyright year was updated from 2019 to 2025, hinting at a possible release in that year.

The timing of these updates is particularly intriguing, as Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct is scheduled for April 2. This has led many to speculate that Hollow Knight: Silksong might be featured during the event, potentially even as a launch title for the new console.

It's been six years since Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced, and while there have been sporadic updates, long periods of silence from Team Cherry have kept fans eagerly waiting. January saw a flurry of activity on social media, with cryptic posts from a developer fueling speculation about a re-reveal during the Switch 2 Direct and a possible timed exclusive release on Nintendo's next-gen console.

When Hollow Knight: Silksong was initially announced, Team Cherry confirmed that it would launch on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. Additionally, following Microsoft's deal with Team Cherry, the game is set to be available on Game Pass from day one, making it one of the most anticipated titles for the service.

In June 2022, Microsoft included Hollow Knight: Silksong in its Xbox-Bethesda Showcase, promising that all showcased games would be playable within the next 12 months. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay past the first half of 2023, with marketing and publishing lead Matthew Griffin stating, "We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

As the sequel to the critically acclaimed Hollow Knight from 2017, Silksong carries immense expectations. It remains one of the most wishlisted games on Steam, reflecting the high anticipation among gamers. IGN's review of the original Hollow Knight praised its rich world and engaging gameplay, saying, "The world of Hallownest is compelling and rich, full of story that’s left for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an absurd amount of choice in how you go about discovering it. With such a high density of secrets to find and fun, challenging enemies to face, it’s worth spending every moment you can in Hollow Knight."
