Anuttacon, an indie game developer and publisher founded by HoYoverse CEO Cai Haoyu, has just announced its debut title, Whispers From The Star, an AI-driven sci-fi interactive experience. Alongside the unveiling, HoYoverse took to Twitter (X) last week to share exciting news about an upcoming closed beta test for this narrative-driven game.
Anuttacon’s AI-Driven Sci-Fi Game Revealed
Set in a distant galaxy, Whispers From The Star follows the story of Stella, a university student majoring in astrophysics. After a crash landing on the alien planet Gaia, Stella finds herself isolated, relying solely on her communicator to seek help. Players will step into the role of her guide, interacting with her through text, voice, and video messages to navigate her through this strange new world.
The gameplay of Whispers From The Star is centered around engaging in real conversations with Stella. According to the developers, as reported by Bleeding Cool News, the game aims to revolutionize interactive storytelling by moving away from conventional dialogue trees. Instead, it utilizes AI-enhanced dialogue to facilitate open-ended, fluid, personal, and immersive conversations.
While the prospect of personalized gameplay has generated significant excitement, the use of AI in the game has also raised some concerns within the gaming community, particularly on platforms like Reddit. Discussions have touched on the emotional implications of forming relationships with AI characters and the potential impact on human actors, a topic that's especially relevant amidst the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike focusing on AI in the entertainment industry.
Despite these concerns, Anuttacon is moving forward with a Closed Beta for Whispers From The Star, targeted at select gamers in the United States. While an exact date and time for the beta test have not yet been announced, interested players can sign up on the developer's website to secure their spot. It's important to note that this test will be exclusive to "iPhone 12 or above" users, with Android devices and iPads currently unsupported.
