*Ticket to Ride* is now offering players a scenic virtual journey through Japan with the release of its latest expansion. Developed by Marmalade Game Studio and Asmodee Entertainment, the Japan Expansion brings fresh gameplay mechanics and cultural flavor to the popular digital adaptation of the classic board game.
Help Build the Bullet Train Network
For the first time, the beloved Japan map from the physical *Ticket to Ride* game is now available on digital platforms—with a twist. Unlike previous versions, where players focus solely on building their own routes, this new expansion introduces a semi-cooperative mechanic centered around constructing a shared national Bullet Train network that benefits all players.
While you can still try to play strategically—letting others do most of the work while you collect points—the game includes a built-in karma system. If you avoid contributing to the Bullet Train effort, you’ll lose 20 points at the end of the game. So, whether you're scheming or supporting, you'll need to strike a balance to come out on top.
New Characters Add Local Flavor
The expansion also introduces two new characters who bring personality and charm to the experience. Nakanishi Kimiko, a travel blogger always on the move with her dog, adds a modern, lively touch to the journey. Meanwhile, Moriyama Isamu—a gyōji (sumo referee)—offers a nod to Japan’s rich cultural heritage, enriching the setting beyond just maps and train tracks.
Upgraded Trains for a Smoother Journey
In addition to new mechanics and characters, the Japan Expansion enhances your in-game collection with two new trains and two carriages. The Ichi Eki Saki train and Tsuki Sleeper carriage offer a more relaxed travel experience, perfect for those scenic routes. For speed lovers, the Isogaba Maware train paired with the Hayai carriage delivers fast and efficient trips across the map.
With springtime aesthetics enhancing the visual appeal of the Japan map, the expansion offers a refreshing change of pace for longtime fans. Available now for download, the Japan Expansion is an excellent way to spice up your *Ticket to Ride* sessions. You can grab it directly from the Google Play Store.
