In *The First Berserker: Khazan*, mastering defensive techniques like Counterattack and Reflection can be the difference between victory and defeat. With stamina management crucial for success, a solid defense not only protects you but also exhausts your enemies, setting you up for devastating counterstrikes. Let’s dive into how to effectively use these skills in the game.

Counterattack is one of the first defensive skills you'll unlock, essential for dealing with powerful Burst Attacks that cannot be blocked by Brink Guard. These attacks are signaled by a flashing symbol and a unique sound effect, your cue to prepare for a Counterattack. To execute, press L1+Circle/LB+B, but timing is critical. You must align the Counterattack animation with the enemy's attack impact, which takes practice to master.

A successful Counterattack not only prevents damage but also fully restores your stamina and staggers the enemy, giving you a window to inflict significant damage. Keep this move ready for enemies like The Viper, who use Burst Attacks, and you'll find battles much more manageable.

Reflection is another vital defensive skill, particularly effective against tougher bosses. While Brink Guard helps avoid damage, Reflection goes a step further by dealing damage and stunning enemies. To use Reflection, press L1+Triangle/LB+Y, triggering an animation where Khazan swings his weapon.

The trick is to time this swing to coincide with an enemy's attack, inflicting significant stamina damage and stunning them. Upgrades can enhance Reflection to deal health damage and shorten the animation for more precise timing. However, missing the timing can result in both health and substantial stamina damage, and Reflection won't work against Burst Attacks or grabs.

Mastering Counterattack and Reflection in The First Berserker: Khazan will significantly enhance your defensive and offensive capabilities. For more tips and strategies, be sure to check out resources on The Escapist.
