Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars comic series in May 2025. This new series, picking up after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, will follow Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they strive to establish the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Written by Alex Segura (following his Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries), the series will be illustrated by veteran Star Wars artist Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron). Noto and Leinil Yu will provide cover art for the first issue.
The story unfolds approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, focusing on the aftermath of the final major battle between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. The New Republic's efforts to establish itself as the galaxy's governing power face significant challenges from opportunistic pirates, criminals, and other antagonists exploiting the power vacuum.
"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can now propel ourselves into a fresh, uncharted era," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "This will introduce new galactic threats, enemies, and mysteries for our heroes to confront, seamlessly blending the familiar with the unexpected." He emphasized the action-packed narrative and character-driven moments, promising a story accessible to new and longtime fans alike.
Noto expressed his excitement about bringing Segura's storylines and new characters to life, highlighting the opportunity to create fresh visual interpretations of classic characters in a period not depicted in films or TV shows. "I get to craft new looks while still referencing the actors from the 80s to maintain the feel of this era," he added.
Star Wars #1 will launch on May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic; in February, they'll release Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey after The Last Jedi.
