MultiVersus on the Brink: Warner Bros. Game Suffers Steep Player Decline

The future of MultiVersus hangs in the balance, with Season 5 potentially being its last hurrah, according to industry insider AusilMV. A source close to the development team reportedly indicated that Season 5 represents a final attempt to revive the struggling game. While this remains unconfirmed speculation, the game's current trajectory is certainly cause for concern.

Initially launched in 2022 to considerable fanfare, boasting a peak of 153,000 concurrent Steam players, MultiVersus experienced a dramatic 99% player drop-off. This led Warner Bros. Games to pull the plug in June 2023, cleverly framing the initial launch as an "open beta test." A relaunch with updates followed in May 2024, yet the game failed to recapture its initial success.

Season 5, commencing in early February, presents a make-or-break opportunity for the developers. Their decision to label the 2022 release a "beta," despite its initial popularity, and subsequent temporary shutdown in June 2023, left many players, including those who purchased the premium edition, feeling disillusioned. The success or failure of Season 5 will ultimately determine the fate of MultiVersus.
