Nintendo Denies Genki's Switch 2 Showcase Claims
Following the recent CES 2025 event, where accessory maker Genki displayed a purported 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 model, Nintendo has issued a statement clarifying the situation. Both CNET Japan and the Sankei newspaper reported Nintendo's confirmation that the images and videos circulating are not official. The company explicitly stated that Genki's claimed Switch 2 hardware is unofficial and was never supplied by Nintendo.
Genki, an American manufacturer of electronics and video game console accessories (including controllers, SSDs, and chargers), created a stir at CES 2025 by presenting the alleged 3D-printed mockup and hinting at possessing a functional Switch 2 unit, along with a purported release date. Their website even features a dedicated page for upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, showcasing a highly detailed animated model of the console.
This contradicts Nintendo's official stance. While Nintendo has confirmed plans to release information about the Switch 2 soon and has acknowledged backward compatibility with the original Switch, no official announcements regarding the console's design, specifications, or launch date have been made. Given Genki's claims, Nintendo's swift denial suggests an imminent official unveiling of the next-generation console is likely.
