Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games

Author : Samuel May 01,2025

Nintendo has officially announced the upgrade costs for two popular Switch games transitioning to the Switch 2 Edition: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. The price for these upgrades is significantly higher than expected.

While The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom require a $9.99 upgrade fee each to move from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 Edition, NintendoLife has revealed that the upgrades for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are more than double that amount.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integrates with the new "Zelda Notes" service in the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version can purchase an "upgrade pack" for $10 to enjoy these enhancements.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content called Star-Crossed World. Meanwhile, the Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Party Jamboree includes a new feature, Jamboree TV, which utilizes the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. Additionally, this edition boasts an upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.

Although U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are not yet available—potentially due to uncertainties related to President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the upgrade pack for Kirby and the Forgotten Land at £16.99 / €19.99, which is more than double the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The upgrade for Super Mario Party Jamboree is similarly priced at £16.99 / €19.99, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99.

The high upgrade cost of $20 for both games may be influenced by the $80 price tag for the full Switch 2 Editions of Kirby and The Forgotten Land + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV. The original Switch versions of these games are priced at $59.99 each, making the Switch 2 Editions $20 more expensive.

For those not opting for an upgrade, here are the U.S. prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games:

  • Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99

It's worth noting that Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers can access the upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom at no additional cost. However, there is no similar offer for upgrading Kirby and the Forgotten Land or Super Mario Party Jamboree.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders became available on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. The pre-orders were met with high demand, and Nintendo has warned U.S. customers that release date delivery is not guaranteed due to the overwhelming interest.
