During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled that nearly the entire catalog of Nintendo Switch games will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. However, several standout titles are receiving enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, featuring unique upgrades. These include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game offers distinct enhancements tailored to the game. The first highlighted game was Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces an innovative feature called "Jamboree TV". This upgrade includes mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble effects, and new gameplay elements utilizing the new camera accessory.
Next up were The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, both set to receive improved resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, these games will benefit from a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes. This feature provides voice guidance to assist in locating Shrines and Koroks, and allows sharing of creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is also getting an upgrade, featuring a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 titled Star-Crossed World, along with enhanced graphics and framerates.
Two upcoming titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, will also see upgrades. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls and offer 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will boast improved resolution and framerates.
These upgraded editions will be available in both physical and digital formats. Additionally, upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby will be available for purchase, allowing owners of the original Switch versions to upgrade their games.

Later in the presentation, several third-party games were announced to receive Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, including Civilization 7 with mouse support and Street Fighter 6 with exclusive game modes.
The buzz around "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games started last week when a footnote on a webpage about the newly announced Virtual Game Card system mentioned that these editions could not be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
