Pokémon Company Tackles TCG Shortages, Scalpers Post-Destined Rivals Launch

Author : Aria May 16,2025

The Pokémon Company has taken a significant step to address the frustrations many fans have experienced when trying to acquire the latest Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) sets. In a recent statement, the company acknowledged the challenges and confirmed that reprints are on the horizon, aiming to ensure that more products reach eager fans.

The launch of the newest set, Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet - Destined Rivals, was marred by shortages, pre-order issues, and the inevitable presence of scalpers. This set, along with other recent releases like Prismatic Evolutions and the Blooming Waters box, have been highly sought after, making them difficult to obtain.

In their statement on the official Pokémon website, The Pokémon Company (TPC) recognized that some fans are "experiencing difficulties purchasing certain Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) products due to very high demand impacting availability." They expressed understanding of the disappointment this causes and assured fans that they are "actively working to print more of the impacted Pokémon TCG products as quickly as possible and at maximum capacity." The reprints are expected to be available at participating retailers soon.

Moreover, TPC plans to "maximize production" for upcoming TCG expansions to enhance product availability right from the launch. They also committed to "continue to reprint impacted products" to restock inventory, including at the Pokémon Center.

In addressing the issue of scalpers, The Pokémon Company indirectly mentioned their efforts to combat this problem. For releases on the Pokémon Center, they are "committed to providing a smooth purchasing experience and employ technology that helps get products into the hands of fans first and foremost." This includes using a virtual queue system during times of high site traffic.

The company concluded by stating their ongoing commitment to "explore measures that help create the best possible experience for Pokémon Center customers." They expressed gratitude to the community for their "continued support and patience" as they strive to deliver more Pokémon TCG products to fans.

With these assurances from The Pokémon Company, fans can hopefully look forward to a more streamlined and less stressful experience when collecting and playing the Pokémon TCG with the arrival of new sets.
