Return of Osmos to Google Play with New Port

Author : Caleb Jan 11,2025

Osmos, the acclaimed cell-absorbing puzzle game, is back on Android! Previously removed due to playability issues stemming from outdated technology, it's been resurrected by developer Hemisphere Games with a completely revamped port.

Remember the unique physics-based gameplay? Your mission: absorb other microorganisms while avoiding the same fate. Simple yet captivating, Osmos was a hit, but Android users had been unable to enjoy it—until now.

Years after its 2010 debut, Osmos returns to Google Play, optimized for modern Android devices. Experience this micro-organic battle royale like never before.

Hemisphere Games explains in a blog post that initial Android development, done with Apportable, was hampered by the studio's closure, rendering updates impossible. The game's subsequent removal from the store, due to incompatibility with current systems (only running on defunct 32-bit Android versions), paved the way for this rebuilt version.
