Shrek 5 has unveiled its all-new cast with a brand-new teaser trailer, and even Movie Sonic's not sure what to make of Shrek's new look. In a playful twist, the Sonic Movie account took to TikTok to share a self-deprecating video offering "advice for green ogres." The clip humorously showcases Movie Sonic's transformation from his infamous original live-action design to the much-improved version revealed months later.

IGN had the exclusive first look at the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie back in 2018, and the feedback was, to put it mildly, mixed. Fans were particularly vocal about the character's teeth, physique, tiny eyes, and oddly human-like fingers. In response to the backlash, director Jeff Fowler decided to revamp the controversial design of the iconic character, promising a more authentic look that was much better received by fans.
While Shrek's new appearance hasn't stirred the same level of controversy as Sonic's initial live-action debut, Sonic's playful jab at Shrek 5 has certainly tickled his fanbase. Comments such as "You know it's bad when you see the Sonic Movie account giving Shrek 5 advice" and "No way they actually posted this" accompanied by crying emojis reflect the light-hearted amusement among viewers.
The fifth installment of the Shrek franchise was originally announced in 2016, but it went silent for years until Chris Meledandri, CEO of animation studio Illumination, announced its active development in 2023. Alongside this news, there were hints of a Donkey spin-off in the works. Universal Pictures has now scheduled Shrek 5 for release on December 23, 2026, after delaying it by a few months and slotting the Despicable 3 spin-off, Minions 3, into its original release date.
