Square Enix has put all doubts to rest with a clear and exciting update about Kingdom Hearts 4. In a recent social media post, complete with captivating images, the developer reaffirmed their commitment to the long-awaited sequel. This comes hot on the heels of yesterday's announcement about the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action-RPG for mobile devices. While fans were disappointed about Missing-Link, Square Enix took the opportunity to assure everyone that they are still "hard at work" on Kingdom Hearts 4.
"We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" Square Enix stated in their first post. Accompanying this message was a stunning collage of screenshots, offering fans a glimpse of the characters, cinematics, combat, platforming, and even a menacingly large enemy.

In their second post, Square Enix expressed their gratitude and excitement: "We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts. We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."
This update marks the first substantial news about the highly-anticipated sequel in months, following a tiny, cryptic tease for Kingdom Hearts 4 back in January. Despite being unveiled in September 2022 with a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had been relatively silent until now.
Tetsuya Nomura, the series director, has hinted that Kingdom Hearts 4 will, after 22 years and 18 games, finally shift the Kingdom Hearts narrative towards its conclusion. This news adds another layer of anticipation for fans eager to see how the saga will wrap up.
As for the canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix conveyed their "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to it. The project was canceled because it was "determined that it would be difficult [...] to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
